Inspiring the next generation
Julia Lynch is Artistic Director of Mascarade Opera, Florence. Having spent three decades at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland as senior vocal coach, she relocated to Florence in 2019 to devote her time fully to Mascarade Opera.
A sought-after vocal coach and recital partner, she has collaborated with many international artists, including Anthony Roth Costanzo, Michael Spyres, Lawrence Brownlee, Christopher Purves, Sir Tom Allen, Sue Bullock, Nicky Spence and Roderick Williams, as well as upcoming young opera stars such as Anna El-Khashem, Catriona Morrison, Beth Taylor and Svetlina Stoyanova. Concerts have taken her all over the world, with recitals in London, Tokyo and Geneva, as well as appearances at the BBC Proms, the Edinburgh International Festival, the Cardiff Singer of the World and the Bayreuth Wagner Festspiele. She has worked with many renowned conductors, including Donald Runnicles, Sir Andrew Davis, Matthias Pintscher, Kent Nagano, Christian Thielemann and Kirill Petrenko. Also an acclaimed chamber musician, Julia has performed with, among many others, Jeff Bradetich, Maximiliano Martin, Mark O’Keefe, Tijmen Husingh, Donnie Deacon and Gabrielé Geminiani.
Most recently, she founded the Perfumeria Trio with violinist Tijmen Husingh and clarinettist Ross Montgomery.

The Florence Choral Course as an annual summer course, which thanks to our supporters is made entirely free for participants and dedicated to the study, performance and promotion of Italian choral music. Up to 25 singers from all over the world have the unique opportunity to come to Florence for in immersive period of daily rehearsals, choral technique workshops, individual singing lessons, archival tours, history lectures and masterclasses with world famous practitioners, including soprano Dame Emma Kirkby and director of Milan Cathedral Choir Maestro Massimo Palombella.
The week culminates in concert and ecclesiastical performances in some of Florence’s most iconic buildings, including Palazzo Tornabuoni, Santissima Annunciata and Santa Maria Novella, as well as a sung mass in the great cathedral of Milan.

In addition, the programme’s advanced choral course for aspiring professional singers provides students a unique opportunity to come to Florence for an intensive programme of study, rehearsals, masterclasses and performances, as well as historical lectures and tours in the heart of the most important city of Renaissance.

Applications for the Florence Choral Course July 2024 will open on 1 January 2024.
