SACRED MASTERPIECES OF THE MEDICI 2024
from friday 29 november to sunday 1 december 2024
An exclusive weekend celebrating newly rediscovered choral masterpieces from Florence during the time of the Medici Granducato
Presented by the SMP ‘Gonfalonieri’
Emma Beanland
Alexandra Munroe
Katherine Zock
Following the success of last year's inaugural event, this unforgettable weekend of sacred music will celebrate rare and forgotten masterpieces from the time of the Medici rulers. Thanks to the research of the Sacred Music Programme of the Fondazione Mascarade Opera, several works will be brought to life for the first time in nearly half a millennium.
Featuring events in some of Florence's most spectacular and historic venues including: Palazzo Tornabuoni, Palazzo Corsini al Prato, Palazzo Larderel, the Sagrestia di Michelangelo, the Medici Church of Saints Michele & Gaetano and the great Basilica of Santo Spirito, the weekend's performances will showcase the talents of internationally acclaimed artists, including the Vox Medicea and English Cornett & Sackbut Ensemble.
To mark this unique celebration, guests are invited to join us for a number of exclusive events, including receptions and dinners in beautiful locations across Florence.
“It is very exciting to hear this music from Florence, so strange that their music has had less attention than that of Venice or Rome. It is a wonderful initiative to explore it!”
